Glass
Glass
I have long been fascinated by glass, a curiosity sparked by the rare demonstrations I witnessed during my childhood. Growing up in a region of France where glassmaking is omnipresent—with the historic cristalleries of Daum, Baccarat, and Passavant-la-Rochère nearby—the material always felt close to home.
At a certain point in my career as a ceramicist, I felt the urge to step off the beaten path and expand my creative horizons. Glass offers properties that contrast beautifully with ceramics, such as its transparency and fullness. Yet, what fascinates me most is how closely related they are: glass shares the exact same components as clay—silica, alumina, and fluxes—just in different proportions. Even my work with glazes is a direct bridge to this medium, as glaze is essentially glass!
Here are a few glimpses into my journey exploring glass as a material.
