Promenade in Venice
Promenade in Venice
This project stems from two visits to the city of Venice, in 2018 and 2024. Each visit left me in awe of the city’s unique blend of history, culture, and architecture—its grand yet weathered buildings rising from the water, vibrant facades, hanging laundry, and intricate doorways, and textured walls.
I translated these impressions into a palette of soft pinks, blues, greens, and yellows. Using plaster moulds and slip-cast porcelain, I created a composition of cubes and rectangles arranged in a funnel-like perspective, inspired by Canaletto's paintings. Some forms are cracked or broken, mirroring the way water erodes Venice’s foundations. With colours not even, and a mix of matte, glossy, and unglazed finishes enhance the raw, timeworn texture, evoking a city shaped by time.
